Wilma (Bradley) Ison

Wilma Bradley Ison of Paducah, KY, formerly of West Liberty, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center, Paducah, KY, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 17 days. She was born on Tuesday, April 11, 1950 at Crockett, KY, daughter of the late Willard Anderson Bradley & Eliza Hutchinson Bradley Conley.

Coming into this world from the very beginning was different than most lives, because immediately Dr. Spencer said “Oh no, there is another one.”  The second one to be born that day, was another girl, Wilma Bradley.  Her father, Willard immediately said, “put them back”, because he already had two girls, now he had four, and he wanted boys!  He came to love them along with their mother, Eliza.  It was different in their household, their mom and dad raised them to be the best they could be, and if they didn’t follow through, he made them wish they had.  He always wanted them to work like boys, but he soon learned they were all girls!

Wilma was the second twin born that day, Willa Christine Bradley came first, which made Wilma the baby of the family being born 10 minutes after Willa, and she never let her parents or her siblings forget it. Being born at Crockett, KY, was an adventure as they swung on the grapevines, wadded in the creek at their grandparents William & Sarah Elizabeth Hutchinson’s house, and played with friends and cousins at their grandparents John Floyd & Annie Bradley’s home.  Another adventure was that they moved around a lot.  Living in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Oregon, and Washington made them appreciate each other because they always had a live-in friend. 

Wilma was a 1968 graduate of Morgan County High School.  She was united in marriage to Douglas Farel Ison on June 8, 1968.  This union was blessed with two children, Kim & Robert.  She was a retired business owner & bookkeeper of the former Blossom Floral Shop & Elam Utility Company.  She was a born again Christian and a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.  Wilma was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Willard Bradley & Eliza Bradley Conley, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Doug Ison; her step father, Autie Conley; her grandparents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leslie & Clarice Ison; nephews, Rick Spicer, Danny Whittaker, and Dean Whittaker; and her special friend of 40 years, Phyllis Bradley. 

Survivors include two children, Kim Ison Young (Kevin) of Lexington, KY and Robert Ison (Dawn) of Paducah, KY; four grandchildren, Ryan Gevedon (Brooke) of Bloomington, IN, Sean Gevedon of Morehead, KY, Katie Ison of Paducah, KY, and Cameron Ison of Paducah, KY; one great grandchild, Reese Iris Gevedon; and three sisters, Elizabeth Hammonds of West Liberty, KY, Mary Martha Whittaker of Vancouver, WA, and Willa Tomlin (Gene) of Centerville, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Service 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Potter Funeral Home, with Bro. Rob Ison, Bro. David Ison, and Bro. Dewie Ison officiating.  Burial to follow in the Bradley Cemetery, Williams Creek, West Liberty, KY.  Visitation 6 p.m., Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Potter Funeral Home.
