William Thomas Obituary

William Charles Thomas of Nicholasville, KY, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024, at his residence after an extended illness, at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 7 days. He was born Friday, June 28, 1940 in Ecorse, MI, and was the son of the late William Vernon Thomas and Ruth Ann LaCross Thomas.

Bill majored in Architectural Engineering at Lawrence Tech in Southfield, MI, but his life’s work was as a true entrepreneur. He began at the young age of 10, successfully developing and selling newspaper routes. Later, he owned a GMC dealership in Detroit, MI, and Bill Thomas Heavy Duty Truck Dealership in Lexington, KY; he was VP of MTA Truck Driving School, VP of United Truck Driving School, and VP of United Travel School; President of Critical Care Nursing Agency of Lexington, KY; VP of Critical Care and Allied Health of Lexington, KY; VP of Medical Travelers of Cape Coral, FL; and owner of the Emerald Isle Motel on Beaver Island, MI. Bill enjoyed a range of hobbies including sailing, boating, flying, collecting trains, guns, and traveling. He was a pilot and loved traveling with his wife, Eula. Bill was a board member of the Cape Coral division of Circus Saints and Sinners, a nonprofit philanthropic organization that contributes to a multitude of worthy charities. He was a loving husband, father, and brother. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Vernon and Ruth Ann Thomas; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elsie and John Ferguson; his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Bradley Stambaugh and Judy Hill; and his brothers-in-law, Dorsey Bradley and Roger Stambaugh.

He is survived by his wife, Eula Ferguson Thomas (Nicholasville, KY); his three children, Sean Thomas (Long Island City, NY), Danielle Thomas (Sarasota, FL), Signè and her husband, Ryan DeWind (Zeeland, MI); his sister, Ellen Jean Thomas, Detroit, MI; his brother, James and his wife Char Thomas (Denver, CO); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Joyce Bowlin and her husband John Roger (Sitka, KY), Karen Ferguson and her partner Claude Albright, (Moon, KY), Valerie Maiden and her husband Greg (Lexington, KY), and his brother-in-law, Boyd Hill (Relief, KY). He is also survived by four nieces and seven nephews: Evelyn Aydelott and her husband Chris (TN), Bridgett Randall and her husband Ted (FL), Breanna Uebelhor (KY), Makayla Rieger and her husband Erik (KY), Marty Bradley and his wife Uneda, Chris Bowlin and his wife Kristi (KY), Michael Bowlin and his wife Mary Ann (KY), Jamie Hill and his wife Lisa (KY), Joe Hill and his wife Michelle (KY), Mark Reed and his wife Paige (KY), and Garrett Uebelhor (KY).

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the Potter Funeral Home Chapel with Elder James Wallin officiating. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Burial will follow in the Keaton Cemetery in Moon, KY. 

Pallbearers: Claude Albright, Marty Bradley, Chris Bowlin, Michael Bowlin, Boyd Hill, Jamie Hill, Greg Maiden, and Garrett Uebelhor.

Honorary Pallbearers: John Roger Bowlin, Ryan DeWind, Joe Hill, Mark Reed, James Thomas, and Sean Thomas.
