Verna Dell (Lewis) Sergent

Verna Dell Lewis Sergent of Fairborn, OH, passed away at the Maysville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 29 days. She was born Friday, September 6, 1929, at Blaze, KY, daughter of the late Dennie G. & Lillie Perry Lewis.

She was united in marriage to Avery E. Sergent on December 24, 1946. This union was blessed with one son, Michael Ellis Sergent. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to caring for her home. She also worked at Delco, Miller’s Grocery, and the Blaze Post Office. She was a Christian and a member of the Freewill Pentecostal Church of God.

In addition to her parents, Dennie & Lillie Perry Lewis, she was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Sergent; one son, Michael Ellis Sergent; brothers & sisters, Arnold Lewis, Stanley Lewis, Ray Lewis, Earl Lewis, Reva Peyton Abner, Leatha Lewis, and Winston Lewis; two nephews, Russell Lewis & Barry Lewis; and one niece, Pauletta Sue Moffeit.

She is survived by one sister, Lorena Lewis of Fairborn, OH; special nephew, Sam (Juanita “Snookie”) Lewis of Flemingsburg, KY; nieces and nephews, Diane (Bernal) Blankenship, Robert (Bonnie) Lewis, LaDonna (Dave) Malone, Phil (Carmie) Lewis, Donald Ray (Peggy) Lewis, Dwight (Cindy) Lewis, Dennis (Marilyn) Lewis, Rickey (Rhonda) Lewis, Jeff (Terri) Lewis, Vernon Lewis, Donnie (Sandy) Lewis, Linda Shawl, Beverly Lewis, Danny (Sherry) Lewis, Janice Caudill, Rhonda (Bobby) McIntyre, Larry (Linda) Peyton, Sharon Disantis, Sheila (Dave) Faulkner, Joyce Cantrell, and Mark (Linda) Lewis; and a host of great & great-great nieces & nephews.

Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home, with Bro. Silas Hoskins & Bro. Vernon Lewis officiating. Burial to follow in the W.H. Lewis Cemetery, Blaze, KY. Visitation at 6 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Potter Funeral Home.

Pallbearers: Kevin Cantrell, Dennis Lewis, Donald Ray Lewis, Phil Lewis, Jeff Lewis, and Mark Lewis.
