Coping with Grief

Sharon Scott, of West Liberty, Kentucky, passed away on December 12th, 2023 after an extended illness.
Sharon was born on April 18th, 1949, to Marcus Howard and Elva Arlene Sturgill Howard in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
Sharon spent her life working diligently to support her children and family, encompassing the true essence of a strong, independent, Appalachian woman. She valued her family above all else. Sharon was blessed with and raised three sons: Howard Quincy Stegall, Eric Tyson Stegall, and George Lee Scott Jr.
In support of her family, Sharon spent her life working in several areas including education, hospitality, and corrections. Sharon valued education and always encouraged her children to seize every opportunity that could culturally enrich and expand their horizons.
In 1980, Sharon married her husband George Lee Scott Sr. of Prestonsburg, Ky, and together they settled and created a nurturing, warm home in West Liberty, Ky.
Sharon will be remembered for her loyalty and devotion to family, her values on education, and her love, respect, and knowledge for the outdoors, especially the flora and fauna of Appalachia.
Sharon was preceded in death by her thirteen brothers and sisters, her husband George Lee Scott Sr., and her first son, Howard Quincy Stegall. Sharon is survived by her two sons, Eric Tyson Stegall and Jennifer Stegall of West Liberty, Ky, and George Lee Scott Jr. of Lexington, Ky; and her daughter-in-law Robin Dickerson of West Liberty, Ky; her four grandchildren, Zachary May, Elizabeth Blair May Rucker, Candis Arthur and Zach Cantrell; her five great-grandchildren, Liam Arthur, Adeline Arthur, Matilda Arthur, Ryker Cantrell, and Ezra Rucker, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout Appalachia and the United States.
Services will be held at Potter Funeral Home in West Liberty, Kentucky, with visitation on Saturday, December 16th, 6PM to 9PM for the public, the funeral on Sunday December 17th at 2PM, followed by burial at West Liberty Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum.
Pallbearers: Zachary May, Zachary Cantrell, Zachary Engle, John Mays, Taylor Fraley, and Eric Arthur.
Honorary Pallbearers: Scott Aliff, Greg Aliff, Renny Fraley, and Mervil Fraley.
