Scottyee Franklin Obituary

Scottyee Ann Burton Franklin of West Liberty, KY, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Morehead, KY, at the age of 77 years, 5 months, and 11 days. She was born Thursday, June 22, 1944, at Lexington, KY, daughter of the late Jay N. & Edra Mae McKenzie Burton.

Scottyee was united in marriage to Lanny Franklin. This union was blessed with three children, Lana Scot, Michael Tike, and George Clay Travis. Scottyee was a retired Staff Trainer for the department of corrections. Throughout her life, she did various jobs, such as teaching music lessons, owner and operator of Kiddie College in West Liberty, was a former owner of the Towne Cinema in West Liberty, and was elected as the first female Mayor of West Liberty.  She was active in her community, doing Telethon's for the March of Dimes here in West Liberty and in Lexington, she started Weight Watchers in West Liberty, she was appointed as a Kentucky Colonel, and in 1972 & 1978, she was awarded Outstanding Young Women of America.  She was a Christian, and a member of the West Liberty Christian Church. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be missed by all of her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lanny Franklin; one daughter, Lana Scot Franklin Harmon; and one great granddaughter, Ivy Lynn Franklin-Carpenter.

She is survived by one daughter and one son, Tike Franklin of West Liberty, KY and George Franklin of Mt. Sterling, KY; three grandchildren, Will Franklin-Carpenter, Katherine Harmon, and Dari Franklin-Carpenter; three great grandchildren; one brother & sister-in-law, Dr. Jay Mike & Linda Burton of Mt. Sterling, KY; three brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Stanley & Alice Franklin, Langley & Glenda Franklin, and Jeffery & Vikki Franklin; nieces and nephews, Meredyth Burton Davidson, Dr. Tabitha & Nathan Maiwald, McKenzie & Jenny Burton, Taylor & Cadena Burton, Stanya & Chris Terrell, Darby & Jody Franklin, Curtis Franklin, and Ella Franklin; and thirteen great nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service, 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home, with Rev. Hunter Fraley, Dr. Jay Mike Burton, and Stanley "Doc" Franklin officiating. Burial in the Salyer Cemetery, West Liberty, KY at a later date. Visitation from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2021.
