Ruth Ison Byrd of West Liberty, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025, at her residence, at the age of 92 years, 10 months, & 10 days. She was born Wednesday, March 16, 1932 at Caney, KY, daughter of James Argalis & Lizzie Ellen Gibson Ison.
Ruth was united in marriage to Ralph Byrd, this union was blessed with six children, Charlotte, Justin, Phillip, James, Lisa, and Gary Michael. Ruth & Ralph had over 75 wonderful years together before his passing in 2022. She was a Homemaker, devoting her life to care for her family & her home. She also worked as a former cook at Morgan County High School for a period of time. She was a devoted Christian and member of Index Community Church. Her character was a great example of grace, forgiveness, and so much love. She left a lasting impression on all of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Argalis & Lizzie Ellen Ison; her loving husband of over 75 years, Ralph Byrd; one son, Gary Michael Byrd; one daughter, Charlotte Byrd Graves; and 11 siblings.
Ruth is survived by four children, Justin Byrd (Mary Ruth) of Winchester, KY, Phillip Byrd (Karen), James Byrd (Genoa), and Lisa Byrd Lewis (Jimmy) all of West Liberty, KY; son-in-law, Jacky Graves of Mt. Juliet, TN; 10 grandchildren, Gary Prater (Elaine), Jennifer Leach (Daniel), Shawna Ward (Mark), Myrisa Christy (Brandon), Wesley Byrd (Ginni), Kristie VanCleave (Shawn), Amberlee Cobbler (John), Kimberlee Blevins (John Nicholas), Eric Byrd (Crystal), and Graham Lewis (Shey); 19 great grandchildren, & 5 great-great grandchildren; and several special nieces & nephews.
Funeral service, 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Potter Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Frisby officiating. Burial to follow in the Boney Haney Cemetery, Castle Branch, West Liberty, KY. Visitation from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesday January 29, 2025 at Potter Funeral Home.
