Richard Fraley Obituary

Richard Wayne Fraley of Van Lear, KY, formerly of West Liberty, KY, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at his residence after a brave battle with cancer, at the age of 70 years & 2 months. He was born Thursday, November 9, 1950 at Pleasant Run in West Liberty, KY, son of the late Carl & Opal Louise Peyton Fraley.

Richard was united in marriage to Nora Howard Fraley on June 12, 1976. This union was blessed with one daughter, Rebecca. Richard was a graduate of Morgan County High School and Morehead State University. He was a veteran who proudly served with the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked for over 30 years at Mountain Telephone, where he made life-long friends. Richard took the most pride in being a grandfather to his adored granddaughter, Ashton. He always brightened any room with his quick wit and humor. He will be greatly missed by all.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Louise Peyton Fraley; his infant sister, Diana Sue Fraley; and his nephew, Jason Lane Fraley.

Richard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nora Howard Fraley; one daughter, Rebecca Fraley Newman & her husband, Jonathan; one granddaughter, Ashton Renee Newman; two brothers, Mervil Fraley & wife, Paula and Renny Fraley & wife, Mary; and his niece and nephews, Layna Fraley Livingston, Taylor Fraley, and Hunter Fraley.

Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home with Bro. Hunter Fraley & Bro. Harold Keeton officiating. Burial to follow in the Engle & Fraley Cemetery, Hwy 519, West Liberty, KY, with Morgan Co. DAV to conduct military rites at the graveside. Visitation, 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 13, 2021 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers: Hunter Fraley, Taylor Fraley, Jonathan Newman, Steve O’Connor, Keith McGuire, and William LeMaster.

Honorary Pallbearers: Richie D. Stacy, Larry Holbrook, and Glennis Goodpaster.
