Mary Kathryn (Phelps) Motley

Mary Kathryn Phelps Motely of Ezel, KY, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the West Liberty Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, West Liberty, KY, at the age of 90 years, 10 months, & 4 days.  She was born Monday, October 9, 1933 at Frenchburg, KY, daughter of Volney & Bessie MacGlothen Phelps.

She was united in marriage to Billy Joe Motley.  This union was blessed with one daughter, Kathy Jo.  She was a homemaker, devoting her life to care for her family and her home.  She was a Christian and member of the Ezel Presbyterian Church.  She will be remembered as a loving mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Volney & Bessie Phelps; her husband, Billy Joe Motley; her daughter, Kathy Jo Motley Cole; three sisters, Alma Staton, Helen Frye, and Lexie Collier; and two brothers, Jack Phelps and Bud Phelps.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Marvin Cole of Ezel, KY; three grandchildren, Christopher Todd Cole (Aundrea) of Ezel, KY, Eric Cole & Shelley of West Liberty, KY, and Leigh Anne Stiltner (Joe) of Morehead, KY; and four great grandchildren, Shelby Jo Cole, Audrey Cole, Presleigh Jo Stiltner, and Cole Stiltner.

Funeral service 1 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2024 at the Potter Funeral Home, with Bro. Keith McGuire officiating.  Burial to follow at Ezel Cemetery, Ezel, KY.  Visitation from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, August 16, 2024 at the funeral home. 

Pallbearers:  Marvin Cole, Chris Cole, Eric Cole, Joe Stiltner, Bobby Motley, Greg Motley, & Eddie Ray Staton.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Ezel Prebsyterian Church or the Ezel Cemetery.
