Julia Mae (McKenzie) Elam

Julia Mae McKenzie Elam of West Liberty, KY, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center, Hazard, KY, at the age of 96 years, 11 months, and 14 days. She was born Wednesday, October 8, 1924, at Emmett, WV, daughter of the late Enoch & Linda Thelma Williams McKenzie.

She was united in marriage to Acie Elam. This union was blessed with one daughter, Perri. Julia was a retired Elementary School Teacher. She was a Christian, was of the Baptist Faith and was baptized at the Freewill Baptist Church in Dayton, OH several years ago. She was a former member of the Paulina & Elkfork Chapters of Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Homemakers, ARH Auxiliary, and the Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch & Linda Thelma McKenzie; her husband, Acie Elam; four brothers and two sisters, James McKenzie, Randolph McKenzie, Hershel McKenzie, Ronald Jay McKenzie, Audrey McKenzie, and Genet McKenzie.

She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Perri & Clarence Hunley of West Liberty, KY; two grandsons, Zane & Jennifer Gillespie of Stanton, KY and Kacie & Mariea Gillespie of Owingsville, KY; seven great grandchildren, Ashley Fugate, Brandon Fugate, Hannah Fugate, Joshua Bowling, Marcus Bowling, Landon Gillespie, and Cameron Smith; one great-great grandchild, Braylon Gillespie; one sister-in-law, Flo McKenzie of West Liberty, KY; and a host of many more step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and nieces & nephews.

Funeral service 11 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Lacy Creek Church of Christ, with Elder Jimmy Adkins & Elder Tom Steele officiating. Burial to follow in the Coffee Cemetery, Old Hwy 172, West Liberty, KY. Visitation from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021, at the church. Potter Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
