Joseph S. Helton of West Liberty, KY, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at his residence, at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 12 days. He was born Tuesday, December 3, 1940, at Salyersville, KY, son of Casey Jones Helton & Edna Mae (Francis) Helton.
Joe was united in marriage to his first wife, Betty Helton. This union was blessed with two children, Tyra & Joey. After Betty’s death, he later met and married Ival Syfert. Joe was a retired electrician, retiring after many years of service with Licking Valley RECC. He was a Christian and a member of the Bloomington United Baptist Church. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Casey & Edna Mae Helton; his first wife, Betty Helton; an infant son, Johnny Ray Helton; and one sister, Janice Arnett.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Ival Brooks Syfert; two children, Tyra Helton Day & Phil of Lebanon, OH and Joey Helton of Mount Sterling, KY; two grandsons, Harley Helton of Ezel, KY and Kraig Helton & Renda of Frenchburg, KY; and two great grandchildren, Addie Helton & Arlo Helton.
Funeral service 11 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Potter Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Brown & Elder Tom Steele officiating. Burial to follow in the Ezel Cemetery, Ezel, KY. Visitation at 6 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2026 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers: Phil Day, Harley Helton, Kraig Helton, Taylor Fraley, Donnie Bush, William LeMaster, Paul Justice, and Tom Steele.
Honorary Pallbearers: Merle Adkins, Talmadge Mann, Russell Burgett, Joey Helton, Jimmy Adkins, and All of the Licking Valley RECC Members.
