John Cleveland Flannery of Jeffersonville, KY, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026, at Stanton Nursing & Rehab Center, Stanton, KY, at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 3 days. He was born Tuesday, September 10 1940, at Hazel Green, KY, son of Troy Flannery, Sr. & Virginia Susan Leach Flannery.
John was united in marriage to Sherry Brooks on July 28, 1961. This union was blessed with three children, Melanie, Susan, and Terry. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, working in the coal mines. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Sr & Virginia Susan Flannery; four brothers, Troy Flannery, Jr. (Mary), Browning Flannery (Daisy), Withrow Flannery, and Jack Flannery; and one brother-in-law, Bobby Brooks (Jann).
John is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sherry Brooks Flannery; three children, Melanie Roberts (James) of Jeffersonville, KY, Susan Adams (Tracy) of Olive Hill, KY, and Terry Flannery (Tina) of Hazel Green, KY; seven grandchildren, Angie Stacy, Amber Holeman, Brandi Martin, Cody Gillespie, Tiffany Wright (Ronnie), Ryan Flannery (Savannah), and Michael Roberts; twenty-two great grandchildren; two brothers, Harry (Cathy) Flannery of Ezel, KY and Dennis (Marietta) Flannery of Denniston, KY; sister-in-law, Margie Flannery of West Liberty, KY; and three brothers-in-law, Donnie Brooks of Brooksville, FL, Mike Brooks (Donna) of Nixa, MO, and Alan Brooks (Sylvia) of Crossville, AL. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and his little fur baby, Taco.
Funeral service 11 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2026 at the Potter Funeral Home with Bro. Harry Flannery & Bro. Dennis Flannery officiating. Burial to follow in the Ezel Cemetery, Ezel, KY. Visitation at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the funeral home.
