John D. Cassity of West Liberty, KY, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at Hazard ARH, Hazard, KY, at the age of 96 years, 1 month, and 28 days. He was born Thursday, August 18, 1927, son of the late Matthew & Etta Smith Cassity.
He was united in marriage to Juanita (Cassity) Cassity. After her passing, he later married Dorothy (Conley) Cassity. John was a United States Army Veteran, where he served his country during World War II. He was a retired Logger, a Christian, and a member of the Wide World Church of God. He loved his family and will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Matthew & Etta Cassity, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Cassity; his second wife, Dorothy Cassity; and three brothers, Sam Cassity, Joe Cassity, and Matthew Cassity, Jr.
He is survived by eight children, Carl Cassity (Shirley), Edna Blair (John Paul) all of West Liberty, KY, James Cassity (Kay) of Elliott County, KY, Joyce Faust (Garland “Butch”) of Alabama, Ray Cassity (Carol), Carolyn Elliott (Avery), John Wayne Cassity (Robin) all of West Liberty, KY, and Rose Monroe (Matthew) of West Virginia; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Elijah Cassity; one sister, Mary Alice Sanjaro; and a host of nieces & nephews.
Graveside service 1 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Cassity Cemetery, Blaze, KY, with Bro. Mike Lindon officiating. Visitation 6 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023 at the Potter Funeral Home.
