J.C. Adkins Obituary

J.C. Adkins of West Liberty, KY, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Morehead, KY, at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 18 days. He was born Monday, March 18, 1929, at Sandy Hook, KY, son of the late William Dona & Lula Gibbs Adkins.

J.C. was united in marriage to his first wife, Della Mae Patrick. This union was blessed with two daughters, Brenda and Sharon. After Della’s passing, he later met and married Thelma Fairchild Lewis. J.C. was a farmer and a faithful Christian for 76 years of his life, being saved and baptized when he was only 16 years old. He was also a faithful member of the Lick Fork Pentecostal Church. He loved his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great & great-great grandfather, and brother. He will be missed by all his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Della Mae Adkins; one sister, Ivory Keeton; and six brothers, Emery Adkins, Claude Adkins, Vernon Adkins, Eugene Adkins, Sammy Adkins, and Dona Adkins, Jr.; and four step-sons, Charles Lewis, Jr., Leavern Lewis, Marvin Lewis, and Jacky Lewis.

J.C. is survived by his loving wife, Thelma Lewis Adkins; two daughters, Brenda Vest (Ira) of West Liberty, KY and Sharon Conway (Steve) of Sandy Hook, KY; four grandchildren, Samantha Wright, Patrick Adkins (Erin), Justin Conway (Ashley), Amelia Howell (Zach); nine great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two step-sons, Dean Lewis (Vicci) and Jerry Lewis all of West Liberty, KY; four step-daughters, Wilma Adkins of Frankfort, KY, Shirley Lewis (Barry) of West Liberty, KY, Sheila Raymer (Owen) of Smithfield, VA, and Sharon Lewis (Keith) of West Liberty, KY; thirteen step grandchildren and several step great & great-great grandchildren; one sister, Eula Dean Prater of Sandy Hook, KY; four sisters-in-law, Jean Patrick of West Liberty, KY, Madeline Adkins of Sandy Hook, KY, Mary Long of Paris, KY, and Elsie Hecht of Wapakoneta, OH.

Funeral Service, 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Lick Fork Pentecostal Church, with Bro. Jonathan Sargent, Bro. Johnny Dagnan, and Bro. Phillip Ferguson officiating. Burial to follow in the Patrick Cemetery, Hwy 7, West Liberty, KY. Visitation 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Lick Fork Pentecostal Church.  The family request for everyone attending the visitation and funeral to please wear a mask or face covering.
