Hubert Clay "H.C." Prater Obituary

Hubert Clay “H.C.” Prater, 85 of Adele, KY, left his earthly home for his eternal home in heaven on April 17, 2022.

He was born October 4, 1936 at Adele, KY to Mary Ellen Nickell Prater and Raleigh Orville Prater.

H.C. attended Cannel City School and Morgan County High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force. After an honorable discharge, he went to Ypsilanti, Michigan and worked at Ford Motor Company.

He met and married Patricia Elaine Haney on June 9, 1962. They returned to Michigan to make their home there. H.C. and Patty had four children while living there. After working 18 years at Ford Motor Company, he froze his retirement and the family moved back to Morgan County to take care of his aging parents.

He worked for several years at Computer Peripherals, Inc. while farming and raising tobacco. He was an extremely hard worker and never left a job undone. He never believed in putting off until tomorrow what could be done today.

He was a simple man who loved the simple things in life. He wanted nothing more than what he absolutely needed. He loved farming, gardening and looking at hundreds of sun flowers he grew every year. After retiring he enjoyed ginseng hunting. It became his favorite thing to do. He also loved feeding birds.

He enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He was as big a kid as they were!

On a beautiful fall day in October, he gave his heart to Jesus Christ. This was a very special time for his family and friends. He was very clear about that and relayed that to all who talked to him. Even when he began to lose his communication skills, he would still tell his family he loved them. He could still sing when asked to, especially “Amazing Grace.”

He will be so greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. We will not say goodbye…..only “until we meet again.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh Orville & Mary Ellen Prater; nine brothers, Chalmer, Edgar, Mort, John Henry, Wilson, Woodford, Wilgus “Cotton”, Ira Wendell, and Herbert Ray; and two sisters, Mexia and Virgina Aliene.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Elaine; four children, Stacey Frisby (Gary) of Verona, KY, Kevin Prater (Laurie Lynn) of Adele, KY, Denenna Singleton (Martin) of Sparta, KY, and Vicki Wiley (Steve) of Toney, AL; seven grandchildren, Brandi (Joe Kratzat), Erica Tuel, Danielle (Jerry Sturdivant), Heather (M.J. Haddix), Kelsey Prater, Tyler Wiley, and Haylee Wiley; seven great grandchildren, C.K. Baker, Jasmine Baker, London Baker, Hunter Tuel, Rowan Kratzat, River Kratzat, and Emma Haddix; and one brother, Ventice Prater of Jacksonville, FL.
