Helena Fay (Weddington) Manning Smith

Helena Fay Weddington Manning Smith of Campton, KY, formerly of West Liberty, KY, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Wolfe County Health Care Center, Campton, KY, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 22 days. She was born Tuesday, April 22, 1930, in Grassy Creek, KY, daughter of the late James Blaine & Nancy Elizabeth Craft Weddington.

She was united in marriage to her first husband, Eugene Manning. This union was blessed with four children, Scott, Marilynn, Anita, and Keith. After Eugene’s passing, she later met and married Wyck Smith.

She was a homemaker, devoting her life to care for her family and her home. She worked as sales clerk for department stores and she also owned her own grocery store. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years, Eugene Manning; her second husband of 20 years, Wyck Smith; five brothers, Herbert Weddington (Eva), Lanford Weddington (Lavodis), Vernon Weddington (Rebecca), Winston Weddington (Venus), and William S. “Billy” Weddington; one sister, Irene Brewer (Critt); and step son, Johnny Ray Smith.

She is survived by her four children, Scott Manning (Willa) of Fleming County, KY, Marilynn Campiglia (Nick), Anita Williams (Hershall D.) of Lacy Creek, KY, and Keith Manning (Elaine) of Grassy Creek, KY; special daughter, Janie Manning; step daughter, Mary Ruth "Liz" Phipps (Greg); twelve grandchildren, Brad Manning, Loren Manning, Helena Shafer (Neal), Jessica Taulbee, Kenton Taulbee, Kyle Taulbee, Cassie McKinney (Devin), James Williams (SuAnn), John Williams (Jenna), Winston Manning, Jeff Ferguson, and Craig Smith; twenty two great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Weddington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service 2 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Potter Funeral Home, with Bro. Danny Collins officiating. Burial to follow in the Salem Cemetery, Buskirk, KY. Visitation 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the funeral home.
