Garry Lee Elam of Radcliff, KY, formerly of West Liberty, KY, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2021 at his residence, at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 1 day. He was born Monday, November 5, 1934 at West Liberty, KY, son of the late Alonzo & Elizabeth Bellamy Elam.
Garry was united in marriage to Mary Katherine Blevins. This union was blessed with two daughters, Margaret Beth & Lea Ann. Garry served his country in the Army National Guard in the 1950’s. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, School of Pharmacy and was a pharmacist in West Liberty for over 50 years. He was the owner and operator of Elam Rexall Drugs in West Liberty for over 40 years. He also worked at the former Rite Aid Pharmacy in West Liberty and at Morgan County ARH Pharmacy. He was a member of the West Liberty Kiwanis Club, the UK Alumni Association, was a Kentucky Colonel, a Christian and a member of the West Liberty Christian Church where he served as an Elder. Garry & Mary Kay had an instrumental part in starting the Prison Ministry at EKCC and was involved in the ministry work there for over 25 years. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother; he will be missed by all of his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine Elam; one daughter, Margaret Beth McGlothen; one grandson, Mark Caplinger, Jr.; infant brother, Noah Taylor Elam; and one nephew, Scot Dickerson.
Garry is survived by one daughter, Lea Ann & Chris Caplinger of Radcliff, KY; seven grandchildren, Kyle McGlothen of Radcliff, KY, Tyler McGlothen of Richmond, KY, Jordan Alexander & Kristin of Brandenburg, KY, Jenny Katherine Ratliff & Alex of Elkhorn City, KY, Kelsey Alexander of Irvington, KY; Amanda Rice & Tray Powers of Battletown, KY, and Megan Caplinger of Radcliff, KY; four great grandchildren, Evan Layne Ratliff, Gavin Lee Ratliff, Presley Eden Alexander, and Brody Christopher Alexander; one sister, Brenda Gayle & Doug Finch of Adele, KY; and a host of nieces, and nephews.
Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home with Chris Caplinger officiating. Burial to follow in the Salyer Cemetery, West Liberty, KY, with the Morgan County DAV to conduct military rites. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home.
