Freddie Smith

Freddie Smith of Ezel, KY, passed away and went home to be with the Lord at his residence on Monday, January 9, 2023 at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 9 days. 

Freddie was born Monday, January 31, 1938, at Canada, KY.  He was the son of the late Verland & Polly (Gannon) Smith and step mother, Sara Smith. 

In addition to his parents & his step mother, he was preceded in death by two special sons-in-law, Donald Walker and Wellie Thompson; and eight brothers & sisters.

Freddie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Naomi Jean (Walters) Smith; four children, Michael Dwayne Smith of Ezel, KY, Angela Dawn Thompson, James Gregory Smith both of Ballard, WV, and Valerie Michelle Conley (David) of Ezel, KY; nine grandchildren, Timothy Mitchell Justice, J.R. Thompson, Jeromy Thompson, Shane Thacker, Chris Dillon, Nick Dillon, Amber Romanello, , Michelle Woolwine, and David Matthew Thompson; seventeen great grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Smith & Erma Smith; and one brother, Carl Smith.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  Upon completing his service time, he returned home, got married and raised a family of four.  He worked as an electrical mechanic at various coal companies and then became a car mechanic before retiring.  He was a devoted husband, father, and friend to all who knew him.

He gave his life to the lord in 1980, and let him lead, guide and direct his life since then.  He became an ordained Pastor and preached some uplifting, spiritual, and beloved sermons throughout the years.  He was a member of the Toms Branch Community Church with whom he loved to attend, fellowship, and serve the Lord every chance he got.

He was blessed beyond measure to have such an amazing and endless host of family, friends, and neighbors, especially Johnny and Royetta Smith, and their daughter Abby.

Funeral Service 11 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Potter Funeral Home, with Bro. Jeff Montgomery officiating.  Burial to follow in the Walker Cemetery, Ezel, KY, with the Morgan County D.A.V. chapter 132 conducting military services.  Visitation 6 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the funeral home.
