Floyd Sherman Obituary

Floyd Sherman of West Liberty, KY, passed away Friday, April 2, 2021 at his residence, at the age of 91 years, 1 month, and 6 days.  He was born Thursday, February 27, 1930, at Paint Creek, KY, son of the late Willie Nathan & Georgie Hill Sherman.

Floyd was united in marriage to Leota Ferguson.  This union was blessed with two children, Beverly & William.  Floyd was a self-employed building contractor.  He was a volunteer fire fighter in Morgan County for many decades; a member of the Morgan County Quarterback Club in the 1980’s; he was always ready to support Leota in any way he could when she was a member of the Morgan County Sorghum Festival Committee; and he also enjoyed playing volleyball with his friends in the Morgan County Senior Volleyball League.  He was a Christian and a member of the West Liberty Christian Church.  Floyd will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle; he will be missed by all of his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leota Ferguson Sherman; his son, William Floyd Sherman; by his siblings, Marvin Sherman, Fearl Sherman Mitchell, Faril Sherman, Buford Sherman, and Wendell Sherman; and a sister-in-law and four brothers-in-law, Mary Mandy Ferguson Hill & Emerson Hill, Curte Ferguson, Don Mitchell, and Edward Mackulak.    

Floyd is survived by his daughter, Beverly Sherman Ryan & John of Lexington, KY; special niece, Marjorie Hill Ratliff & Steve of West Liberty, KY; three grandchildren, Shaun Laungani & Kelly, Lindsey Beth Noblin & Matt all of Lexington, KY, and Wes Ratliff of West Liberty, KY; two great grandchildren, Marshall Laungani and William Henry Noblin; one sister, Janis Mackulak of Chesterton, IN; a host of special nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews; two sisters-in-law, Erma Ferguson of Lexington, KY and Geneva Sherman of West Liberty, KY; and a very special caregiver, Shelia Jones.

Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home, with Bro. Hunter Fraley officiating, with burial to follow in the Paint Valley Memorial Gardens, Crockett, KY.  Visitation from 12 noon - 1 p.m., Monday, April 5, 2021, at the Potter Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to the West Liberty Christian Church, P.O. Box 1, West Liberty, KY 41472 or Bluegrass Hospice Care Navigators, 57 Dennis Sandlin MD Cove, Hazard, KY 41701 (www.bgcarenav.org).

Pallbearers:  Curte Ferguson, Todd Ferguson, Robert Ferguson, Wes Ratliff, Shaun Laungani, Matt Noblin, Brock Litteral, and Wallace Rose.

Honorary Pallbearers:  Steve Ratliff, John Ryan, Tommy Hill, Keith Sherman, Marty Bradley, Edwin Brown, and Jerry Trusty.
