Evelyn (Prater) Howard

Evelyn Prater Howard of Caney, KY, passed away Friday, June 6, 2025, at UK St. Claire Medical Center, Morehead, KY, at the age of 72 years, 5 months, & 12 days.  She was born Thursday, December 25, 1952, in Salyersville, KY, daughter of Roosevelt & Edna Marie Wireman Prater.

Born in Salyersville, Ky, she moved to Morgan County at the age of 16 and married Norman whom she has spent the last 56 years with. Evelyn worked many years as a cook at Cannel City Elementary school and then at the West Liberty Nursing home in laundry. She was a Faithful member of Grace Baptist Church. If the church doors were open, she was there. To know her was to love her. She never met a stranger that she didn’t want to feed. She spent many hours in the sun light drinking coffee, without shoes on. She loved her family, her Sunday School class at Grace Baptist and her animals. Her annual vegetable garden was always her pride and joy. Tending to the plants and then canning. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt & Marie Prater and one sister, Palisteen Prater.

Evelyn is survived by her loving husband, Norman Howard; two children, Norman Ray Howard (Jessica Fallen) and Sandra Dye (Troy) all of Caney, KY; four grandchildren, Dustin Howard (Brittany), Montana Davis (Kody), Chloe Dye, and Carly Dye; four great grandchildren, Emily Howard, Logan Howard, Keaton Davis, and Addison Davis; three sisters, Earnsteen Watkins of Salyersville, KY, Magelene Burton of West Liberty, KY, and Wandalene Porter (Greg) of Salyersville, KY; and her best friend, Gail Davis.

Funeral service, 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Grace Baptist Church, Malone, KY, with Bro. Mike Lindon & Bro. Tim Clark officiating.  Burial to follow in the Howard Dye Cemetery, Caney, KY.  Visitation from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Grace Baptist Church, Malone, KY.  There will be a meal served after the burial at Faith Baptist Church, Caney, KY.

Pallbearers:  Norman Ray Howard, Troy Dye, Dustin Howard, Kody Davis, Perry Prater, and Daniel "Boone" Howard.

Honorary Pallbearers:  Doug Davis, Arkie Patrick, Bob Roseberry, Paul Craft, David Howard, and Tim Cantrell.
