Donald "Donnie" McKenzie Obituary

Donald Henry McKenzie of West Liberty, KY, passed away Monday, April 14, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY, at the age of 85 years, 10 months, & 24 days, after a brief illness.  He was born Sunday, May 21, 1939, at Licking River, KY, son of Victor Clay & Florence Wells McKenzie.

Donnie was united in marriage to Wanetta Perry McKenzie on November 21, 1958.  This union was blessed with three children, Terrie, Donna, & Shawn.  He was the owner and operator of the McKenzie’s Pool and Lunchroom, where he worked since 1958.  He was always willing to help others, and it was never surprising to see him serve a free lunch or breakfast to someone in need.  His kindness, generosity, and strong work ethic will leave a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Donnie was heavily involved for decades with the Morgan County Little League and Morgan County Football programs.  In 1992, Donald and his twin brother Ronald were chosen as Morgan County’s Outstanding Citizens of the Year.  He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.  Donnie will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a wonderful friend to so many who knew him.  He was devoted to his community and took pride in making it a better place for others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Clay & Florence Wells McKenzie; his loving wife, Wanetta Perry McKenzie; two sisters, Aihleen (Daniel) Peyton & Oleta (Roger) Collins; two brothers, Ronald McKenzie & Charles Wells; son-in-law, Dalmer Ray Harper; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Brian & Ethel Perry; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Hubert Perry, Samuel Perry, John Perry, Jerry Perry, Wilma Spuertdo, & Jeanette Salmon.
