Corena "Fay" (Whitt) Perkins

Corena "Fay" Whitt Perkins of Grassy Creek, KY, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, KY, at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 30 days. She was born on Friday, May 24, 1935, daughter of the late Arna Whitt & Mona Smith Whitt.  She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Bonnie “Bob” and Chester “Buddy” Smith.

She was united in marriage on June 27, 1955 to Hershel Perkins.  They were blessed with 4 children, Melodie, Kim, Darren, & Travis.  She was a Christian and a member of Wells Chapel Church of God.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and homemaker, and was the best mother to her children.  She had a keen mind and enjoyed keeping up with politics and what was going on in the world.  She also kept up with current pop culture and enjoyed spending time with young people.  She also had a great love for all animals, especially dogs and cats. 

In addition to her parents and aunt & uncle, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel Perkins; two sisters, Dorothy Caskey and Juanita Robinson; one brother, Smith “Sambo” Whitt; and an infant granddaughter. 

She is survived by daughters, Melodie & Ed Stickrath and Kim & Jerry Dearth all of Aurora, CO; sons, Darren & Gina Perkins of Lubbock, TX and Travis Perkins and his girlfriend, Susan Thompson of Grassy Creek, KY; two grandchildren, Katie & Tim Lunder and Austin “Hef” & Madison Perkins; one brother, Kermit & Elaine Whitt of Signal Mountain, TN; sisters-in-law, Osaka Grant of Dayton, OH and Agatha “Gaygie” Moyers of Morehead, KY; special “almost daughter” Holly Perkins; special family friend, Krista Richie; and her two beloved cats, Chester & Little Bit.

The family would especially like to thank Holly Perkins, Agatha Moyers, and Debbie Moyers for their loving care and companionship to Fay during her last days in allowing her to stay at home as she wished.  She loved you all and so do we.  Thank you for being so good to her.

Funeral service 11 a.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Potter Funeral Home with Bro. Pat Hoskins, Bro. Sean Hoskins, & Bro. Danny Terry officiating.  Burial to follow in the Perkins Cemetery, Stacy Fork, KY.  Visitation 6 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2023 at the funeral home.
