Chester Walter Obituary

Chester Hiram Walter, age 81, of Grassy Creek, KY passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, April
11, 2023 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center. Chester was born October 18, 1941 at Grassy Creek,
KY.

He was a Christian and attended Salem Church faithfully all of his life. He was the son of the late
Ralph Elmo and Thelma Osborn Walter. He was united in marriage to Wilma Jean Bailey on
September 4 1963. This union was blessed with two sons; Chester Wade Walter and Neil Hiram
Walter.

Chester attended high school at Hazel Green Academy. This is where he met his high school
sweetheart, Wilma Bailey. After graduating in 1959 Chester then attended Mayo Technical School
and studied auto mechanics. He worked many years in West Liberty at Stamper’s Chevrolet which
later became Bills Chevrolet. He took pride in his work and fixed countless radiators before he
retired in 2008.

However he was most known for his love of family and the great outdoors. Chester was an avid
hunter and fisherman. He had a vast knowledge of guns and ammo. He could reload any shell that
you might need and he had more fishing and hunting gear than your local Walmart. He spent many
hours making fishing baits and sinkers with his good fishing buddies. Many friends and neighbors
would stop by so that Chester could get their guns lined up perfectly for hunting season. He could
tell you more about Kentucky’s campgrounds, boat ramps, gun ranges, backroads and fishing holes
than any map ever could.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Ruth Walter and Brothers-in-
law Chester “Junior” Bailey, Rexford Bailey, Randolph Bailey and Kenneth Bailey.

In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, Wilma Jean Bailey Walter, he is survived by two sons: Chester
Wade Walter (Pauline) and Neil Hiram Walter (Cheryl). Three treasured grandchildren. Justin Neil
Walter, Elizabeth Irene Walter and Garrett Andrew Walter. One brother Thomas Ezra Walter
(Charlotte) and one sister Margaret Walter. Sister-in-law Betty Sue Bates (Paul). A special double-first
cousin William Walter (Susan). A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, neighbors
and friends.
