Avery Fern (Adams) Smith

Avery Fern Adams Smith of West Liberty, KY, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Elliott County Nursing & Rehab Center, Sandy Hook, KY, at the age of 82 years, 2 months, & 8 days.  She was born Sunday, April 25, 1943, at Stacy Fork, KY, daughter of Henry Carr & Victoria Jones Adams.

Avery was united in marriage to her beloved husband and best friend, Willard Smith on August 12, 1961.  She started her career in 1981 at West Liberty Nursing & Rehab Center as C.N.A. & later became a K.M.A. She enjoyed her job and retired after working for over 30 years.  She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.     

Avery was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Carr & Victoria Adams; her loving husband, Willard Smith; and her sister, Joyce Ann Adams Smith.

She is survived by an unofficially adopted son, Densil Wheeler (Amy) of West Liberty; two nieces, Melanie Barker (Steve) & Charlene Engle (Pete) all of West Liberty; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great & great-great nieces & nephews, and other extended family.

Avery will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral service, 1 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2025 at Potter Funeral Home.  Burial to follow in the Grassy Lick Cemetery, Grassy Creek, KY.  Visitation from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2025 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers:  Zachary Engle, Steve Barker, Dylan Barker, Eddie Dean Barker, Eric Allen, and John Mayabb.

Honorary Pallbearer:  Chandler Halsey.
