Asa Mervel Vest of West Liberty, KY, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, KY, at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 20 days. He was born Friday, June 11, 1943 at West Liberty, KY, son of the late Drexel & Irene McGuire Vest.
Asa Mervel was united in marriage to his first wife, Glenda Griffitts. This union was blessed with three sons, Matthew, David, and Adam. After Glenda’s passing, he later met and married Rita Mollette. Asa Mervel was a US Army Veteran, serving his country during the Vietnam War. He was a distinguished & decorated military helicopter pilot, where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, among others. He was a retired Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and a Farmer. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Drexel & Irene Vest and his first wife, Glenda Griffitts Vest.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rita Mollette Vest; three sons, Matthew & Lara Vest of West Liberty, KY, David Vest of Birmingham, AL, and Adam & Mandy Vest of Los Angeles, CA; one step daughter, Sherri & Jonathan Hux of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and three grandchildren, Sophia Vest, Katie Vest, and Henry Hux.
Graveside service 4 p.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at the Ezel Cemetery, Ezel, KY, with Elder Jimmy Adkins officiating.
