Alonzo Walden Hensley, Jr. of West Liberty, KY, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at the Wolfe County Health & Rehabilitation Center, Campton, KY, at the age of 91 years, 9 months, & 17 days. He was born Saturday, October 15, 1932 at Beattyville, KY, son of Alonzo Walden Sr. & Mary Elizabeth Hammons Hensley.
Alonzo was united in marriage to Elizabeth Brashear. This union was blessed with two children, Kelse & Teresa. He was a retired Lieutenant for the Kentucky State Police and also served as a former Morgan County Sheriff. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 – 1956 during the Korean War. He was a Christian and attended the Index Community Church, and was also a Mason and member of the Elkfork Masonic Lodge # 755. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Walden & Sr. & Mary Elizabeth Hensley; his loving wife, Elizabeth Hensley; and two brothers, Eugene Hensley & Erdean Hensley.
He is survived by two children, Kelse Hensley (Lydia) of West Liberty, KY & Teresa Vance (Kenneth) of Grassy Creek, KY; five grandchildren, Garret Hensley (Tia), Kira Cauley (Jeremy), Michael Stigall (Jamie), Nathan Vance (Carolyn), & Kevin Vance (Tessa); eleven great grandchildren, Emilee, Alonzo, Kylei, Tenille, Colton, Kennedy, Karlee, Ava, Lucy, Beau, & Klara.
Funeral service 1 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Potter Funeral Home, West Liberty, KY, with Rev. Mike Frisby & Bro. Rick Pelfrey officiating. Entombment to follow at West Liberty Memorial Gardens, West Liberty, KY, with Morgan County DAV to conduct military rites. Visitation 6 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2024 at the funeral home. KSP honors performed by the KSP Honor Guard.
Pallbearers: Michael Stigall, Garret Hensley, Nathan Vance, Kevin Vance, Jeremy Cauley, & Dale Dewitt.
